Telemedicine
Telemedicine involves the use of secure electronic communications and software to provide clinical services to patients without an in-office, in-person visit. Telemedicine technology is frequently used for follow-up visits, consultation, clinical services that can be provided remotely via secure video and audio connections.
We offer interative telemedicine, also referred to as "live telemedicine" where our doctors communicate with their patients in real-time.
Benefits of telemedicine include:
Less time away from home/work
No travel expenses or time
Less interference with child or elder care responsibilities
Privacy
Works well for follow-up appointments and consultations
No exposure to other potentially contagious patients or viruses (like COVID19)
Direct face time with the doctor
Drawbacks of telemedicine include:
Limitations of not being able to physically and fully exam the eye
Does not work for comprehensive eye examinations and initial contact lens fitting to determine glasses/contact prescriptions
Anything that requires immediate, hands-on care will need an in-office visit
In our office, we are not a medical insurance provider. Telemedicine visits may incur out of pocket costs (although, it may be less expensive than your in-office medical visit)
